Peregrine Falcon Updates Page 2 of blog.

NEWS UPDATE: June 18:
I drove by the birds this morning (6:30am) and took this shot from the ground from a very long ways away (not much light). Maize up a about doing her thing. Could today be the day she takes her first flight? I think it may.

Defeathering the kill.

UPDATE: June 18: EVENING VISIT: Well Maize was still there after all. Beautiful day for a flight, but I guess the longer she waits the better off she will be. I took a few more photos while I was there. It was dinner time...

NEWS UPDATE: June 19: EVENING VISIT: It appears that I was a day off. I spent two hours this evening walking and driving the grounds searching for Maize, but no luck. I believe that Maize flew and there were no signs left behind indicating that it wasn't a successful flight. There was no regular feeding and the parents just stayed motionless on their perches on opposing sides of the building as if they were waiting for her return. I will check a few more times over this weekend just to be sure, but for now, I will call it a successful flight.

NEWS UPDATE: June 20: Morning visit: I FOUND MAIZE! She did jump yesterday and landed on a small ledge about 80 feet below. She is fine, no injuries that I can see, and the parents are taking care of her and feeder her there. The new ledge is pictured and is appox. 3' x 7' x about 30 feet up. It is a sunken ledge and offers plenty of protection. I will visit off and on and keep you posted. Todays pics are below...

80 foot drop to the new ledge.

Maize!

Appears to be fine

Mom & Dad prepair a meal at nearby ledge.

Father leaves leaving food with mom.

Mom delivers food to Maize.

Maize gladly accepts breakfast.

Carrying meal down the narrow part of ledge.

Flapping.

Practicing landings. First landing probably didn't go so well.

NEWS UPDATE: June 20: I returned at 3:00pm and Maize was still on the new ledge, pacing back and forth and flapping her wings. She was really getting antsy to get off that ledge. I returned again at 7:15pm and Maize was not to be seen, but I knew that she had to be resting low on the ledge, out of site. Majesty was watching over several stories above. I walked around looking for Barry and found him at the old nesting site at the Durant (see pic below). I walked back and there she was, in flight with her mom flying in circles. Maize flew to the 8th floor windowsill and tried to land on the cross brace, then dropped to the ledge. She was tired from the flight and laid on the sill for a while. She eventually got up and walked the sill several times. Barry showed up at 8:25pm with food. Looks like Maize is going to be fine. I'll check on her again tomorrow. Thank you for checking in on the blog. Pics below....

Barry back at the Durant.

Then Barry delivers food to the 6th floor.

NEWS UPDATE: June 21: 6:30am.....Maize is fine and still on the 8th floor windowsill. More later....

NEWS UPDATE: June 21: 4:30pm....Maize flew back to the top ledge. There her mom accompanied her, as dad did aerial fly-bys as if he was demonstrating some flying maneuvers. After a while Barry stopped and perched near by and Majesty then took over with some fancy flying her self. Looks like Maize is going to be alright!

NEWS UPDATE: June 22: 7:00am Maize and family doing well on the rail of the rooftop of the Northbank center. Pictured below.

NEWS UPDATE: June 22: 6:00pm Maize and Mom hung out on the rooftop catching some rays. It sure was hot. Sorry no pics this time. Not much to see, just heads looking over the edge. When I was leaving I pulled into the U of M parking lot a ways away. Looking back I saw Maize and Majesty fly from the roof to the ledge. Barry then came flying in then they all took off right away. Mom came back pretty quick but no sign of Barry or Maize. Maize took off towards the U of M campus, flapping all the way. She hasn't quite perfected the flap glide routine. I'm sure she would rest on a rooftop before returning. I was too far away for photos and most of this happened while driving through the parking lot. Hope to check again in the morning.

I want to thank everyone for visiting my blog. Your comments are very much appreciated. I've noticed on my stats that many of you are missing the first page of the blog which starts out with my painting of this family on their original nesting site. Below the painting demo is the starting of this blog. I just don't want you to miss out.
